Wetherspoons pubs are known for their standard food menus across its sites, reasonable prices, lack of music or sport on the telly and beer with breakfast.

But where do the eight branches in Oxfordshire stand in the overall Wetherspoons rankings?

The majority of them are currently rated at 3.5 out of five on Tripadvisor but everyone has their favourites - and their least favourites.

The William Morris, Cowley

The pub on Pound Way named after William Morris - who founded Morris Motors - gets mostly good reviews and average 3.5 on Tripadvisor.

Neil H visited for New Year breakfast, with two good neighbours. "Three great breakfasts, plus 'bottomless' hot drinks, no other gastro pub in and around Oxford comes anywhere near for value for money," he said.

Witney Gazette:

But Coolin was among a few critics who called the pub "consistently disappointing", The food, he said "is next level bad". He took a photo of his meal which he said "flatters it". Ouch.

The Company of Weavers

The pub in Witney also received 3.5 out of 399 reviews and Anne F said: "Good, excellent - also ambiance. Will come again - Selection of craft beers good too. Impressed member of CAMRA."

But Jason B called it 'a nightmare', explaining: "One of the kitchen assistants came out polishing the cutlery, he was singing loudly about how he hated this job - this went on for at least five minutes."

The Exchange

The grand-looking Banbury pub gets 3.5 out of 278 reviews on Tripadvisor but Victoria C gave it an underwhelming review: "Alright on a night out."

A trickier customer described it as full of old men and "more like a bookies with booze".

Another added: "Hotel OK. Bit old. Price great, cheap for London. Food good, car park free at night so OK hotel. "

There was much praise for the spacious garden area at the back of the pub.

The Narrows, Abingdon

A firm favourite with customers. One reviewer said: "Love coming to The Narrows, lovely place to just relax with good food and a pint."

Others said they had a "marvellous experience" at the restaurant and praised the cheap prices.

The Penny Black, Bicester

"This has to be one of the best Weatherspoons," wrote one reviewer of the pub which gets 3.5 out of 290 reviews on Tripadvisor.

"My main reason for this review is the ladies on the bar go above and beyond, always smiling," she said.

But a puzzled visitor said: "Strange choice of items of decor for what was once a post office though - knights, helmets and tapestries?"

The Four Candles, Oxford

The city centre pub on George Street held a themed Burns Week in January, and one customer loved his burger with haggis.

But another gave a back-handed compliment: "Very impressive waiter who cleaned lots of tables. He was very polite and attentive. Very unusual for a Wetherspoons."

The Swan and Castle, Oxford

Scores bottom among the eight Oxfordshire Spoons.

One customer said: "What a awful place... they ban you for life for breathing."

Another said 30 minutes in to their Christmas works do "we were asked to leave, the reasons were 'too noisy'. "

Another family summed it up as 'worst Weatherspoons experience ever'.

"We arrived at 11.15am and there were already uncleared and dirty tables. We removed some dirty glasses to sit at a table by the window opposite the Westgate."

The chips were "stone cold and the rest was lukewarm" and when they asked will we get fresh meals the  young man who served them said yes.

"When our meals finally returned the chips were hot but the fish and burgers had just been re-heated.  When I questioned this... he said - quote - 'as only the chips were cold I did not replace the rest'.
