A football tournament will take place to raise money for a foundation formed following the death of an Oxford United legend.

The event, set for Oxford United's training ground on May 30, has been organised by Planet Recruitment in partnership with the Joey Beauchamp Foundation.

Widely regarded as one of United’s greatest ever players, Mr Beauchamp is currently 10th in the U’s appearances table and fifth in the club’s all-time goalscoring chart.

The foundation was formed earlier this year following Mr Beauchamp's suicide in 2022.

It aims to address the "pressing need for mental health support and awareness within our community".

Planet Recruitment have access to the training facility for a game once a year as one of the main sponsors of Oxford United.

Twenty four teams signed up for the event within 36 hours of its launch.

Among them are businesses and those close to Mr Beauchamp, as well as a team made up of players from the Oxford United 2010 play-off winning side.

The day of the tournament will feature raffles and auctions, with food vans and mobile bars set to donate a portion of their profits.

Organisers are anticipating 300-400 people to be in attendance.

Oxford-born Mr Beauchamp signed for United as a youth player in 1987.

He had spells at West Ham United and Swindon Town before returning to the Manor Ground to help United win promotion in 1996.
