Ashnah is an amateur tribal and bellydance performance group based in Abingdon. To date, Ashnah has performed at many local events.
Members of the group (who make their own costumes) have achieved many IDTA dance exam medals, trophies and dance training certifcates.
The group plays zills, shakers and basic rhythms on the djembe and tabla drums.
Where did the name come from? Names came and went, meaningful, funny, stupid, absurd until one name jumped out from all the rest. Ashnah, as well as a Biblical town in Judah, is a Hebrew name meaning ‘change’ and was quite appropriate since members of the group were enjoying new challenges.
