Oxford Downs stayed deep in trouble at the foot of Cherwell League Division 1 after holding on for a draw at home to Tiddington on Saturday.

These two sides have spent most of the summer struggling to secure victories.

But Tiddington have gradually found their feet in their first season in the top flight and will surely survive.

Put in to bat, they got off to a good start through openers Tom Rowley (77) and Will Cooper (36) as none of Downs’ frontline bowlers made any inroads.

The introduction of Will Watts (4-65) and Jonathan Meardon (5-41) helped restrict the visitors to 225 all out, and so gave Downs 48 overs to attempt the run chase.

The game was in the balance while James France was hitting ten fours in his 62 and Henry Sensecall was stroking 58.

But Matthew Johnston took 4-40 from seven overs to leave the hosts clinging on for a draw by the end at 193-9.

Great & Little Tew 2nd are a win away from the Division 3 title after battering Banbury 3rd.

Robbie Shurmer (87) and Tom Young (64) took Tew to 225 all out, despite the best efforts of Mickey Thomas (5-53).

Banbury were then blown away for 132, with Shurmer taking 4-32 as only Jamie Coles (47) hung around for any length of time.

Sandford St Martin stayed on track for Division 2 by beating Shipton-under-Wychwood 2nd.

Thomas Goffe (4-37) and Martin Anson (3-36) joined forces to dismiss the visitors for 132, of which Paul Hemming made 38.

Sandford then raced to 135-2 from 28.2 overs, with Tim Lowe 60 not out at the close.

Oxford Downs 2nd went down to an eight-wicket defeat at Didcot.

Downs were rolled over for only 126, with Ian Demain taking 6-29.

The hosts wasted little time in reaching 129-2, with the on-song Henry Brisland 86 not out when the winning run was scored.

Gareth Benger took 3-10 after Alfie Rushton and Sam Roberts had both claimed 3-24 as Witney Mills were humbled for only 78 at Leighton Buzzard Town 2nd in Division 4.

Only Adam Mayho (34) spared Mills total humiliation.

Earlier, Town had made 196-5 through Yogesh Mistry (62no) and James Raine (61), while Sam Haselgrove took 4-53.
