Witney recovered from a 13-point deficit against Leighton Buzzard to extend their impressive winning run to ten games in South West 1 East.

Second-half tries from David Hyde, Jake Thomas and Joe Rowles secured a 22-13 victory, after Luke Stanbridge had starred for Buzzards in the first half.

It was perfect revenge for fifth-placed Witney who lost 17-15 at home to the Bedfordshire side in November.

The result also saw them close to within two points of fourth-placed Swindon.

But they started slowly and the hosts took a fifth-minute 3-0 lead through the boot of Stanbridge.

On 20 minutes he was accurate with another kick.

Buzzards soon added more points to the scoreboard, with Stanbridge once again starring, this time going over and converting his own try for 13-0.

It wasn’t until nearly the half-hour mark that Witney started to click into gear, a Phil Thomas penalty on 33 minutes reducing the deficit to ten points.

In the second half, Hyde charged over in front of the posts from seven metres out to get the ball rolling, with Thomas adding the extras.

It was all Witney, though they couldn’t put a finishing touch to several promising moves.

But they kept up the momentum and they were rewarded ten minutes from time when Thomas rounded a defender before touching down.

As the game reached its climax, Witney sealed the win after Rowles crashed over, Thomas converting.

On Saturday, Witney are at home to third-placed Windsor at Hailey Road.
