GREAT & Little Tew captain Andy Harris described winning promotion to Division 1 of the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League for the first time as a “special moment” for the club.

Tew clinched a place in the top two after their main rivals Gerrards Cross and Amersham both lost on Saturday.

However, Harris’s side were already assured of 20 points after opponents Dinton scratched their game on Friday.

Harris said: “It is a fantastic achievement for the club.

“It is what we have been working towards over the last five or six years.

“It is a special moment.”

Tew now need just three points from their final game at Shiptonunder-Wychwood to capture the Division 2 title and Harris is desperate to win promotion as champions.

He said: “It will feel a little bit empty to finish second after losing the last game.

“We’re certainly looking to go out on a win.

“It would be a nice way to finish off the season.”

Shipton go into the final game with their Division 2 status uncertain.

A crushing 157-run defeat at Datchet saw them slip to third bottom and they need eight points against Tew to avoid the drop.

Datchet opener Steve Naylor hammered 133 from 145 balls as the hosts piled up 304-6.

Shipton collapsed to 47-5, but Charlie Miller gave Shipton hope with 56 off 90 balls.

But they were bowled out for 147.
