STRIKER Danny Hylton is determined the good times will continue to roll for Oxford United.

Still basking in the glory of reaching Wembley, the U’s forward believes something special is happening at the Kassam Stadium.

And he says the United squad have no intention of taking their foot off the gas.

“We are having a season to remember,” he said.

“We are not going to get carried away, this is just a little bonus for us – a distraction from the league – and we have got a day out at Wembley now.”

The U’s booked their place at the home of English football with a 2-1 aggregate victory over Millwall in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area final on Tuesday night.

Michael Appleton’s side have also beaten Premier League Swansea City this season in an Emirates FA Cup run that saw them knocked out by Blackburn Rovers in the fourth round on Saturday.

But their main objective is simple – to secure promotion from Sky Bet League Two.

That will not change, says Hylton, but the chance to play at Wembley has given everyone a massive lift.

And it will also see the striker fulfil a lifelong ambition.

“We know what we want to do this year,” he said.

“But how often do you get the opportunity to play at Wembley, especially as a League Two club?

“I have been to Wembley as a fan – my friend was playing there a few years ago in the JPT final and I was so jealous.

“I am just over the moon that we are going to get a chance to go there.”

The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy is seen as a hindrance by some clubs, who choose to give fringe players a chance to shine.

But although the U’s have shuffled their pack in wins over Swindon Town, Dagenham & Redbridge, Yeovil Town and Millwall, a trip to Wembley, Hylton says, is testament to the quality of their players.

He added: “It is often a competition clubs don’t take seriously in the early stages, but it shows the strength of our squad.

“We have rotated a bit and it just shows you whoever plays is more than capable.

“We are just so happy we are going to Wembley.”
