BANBURY United extended their losing streak to eight games despite a debut goal from Birmingham City loanee Ben Beresford.

Isaac Sinclair gave home side Curzon Ashton the lead after just six minutes, when he slotted underneath the onrushing Jack Harding.

The advantage was doubled midway through the first half when Hayden Campbell headed in at the back post.

Beresford pulled a goal back for the Puritans just after the half hour mark, latching on to Christie Ward’s through ball, before finishing between the legs of home goalkeeper Josh Ollerenshaw.

However, in first half stoppage time, Alex Kenyon bundled in a rebound from close range, to ensure the hosts had their two-goal lead at the break.

With 20 minutes to go, the play-off hopeful home side added their fourth goal of the afternoon, as Stefan Mols finished well past Harding.

The latest defeat leaves the Puritans third from bottom in Vanarama National League North, and nine points adrift of safety.

Kevin Wilson’s side welcome South Shields, two points shy of the play-offs, to the Spencer Stadium tomorrow evening.

Didcot Town, bottom of Southern League Premier South, will look to bounce back from their 4-0 defeat at home to Gosport Borough, when they make the trip to fellow strugglers Plymouth Parkway.

North Leigh, sixth in Southern League Central Division, host Stotfold, following their 2-0 loss at Aylesbury United.

Bottom side Thame United can leapfrog Kidlington if they manage to win at second-placed Bedford Town.
